What is an anti-dumping duty?
“When Canadian Manufacturers and Industries feel that certain imported products are hurting their business, they can make a formal protest to the Government. The Government then reviews the complaint and if they agree with the Canadian Manufacturers and Industries, they will apply extra tax, often called
an anti-duty duty and/or a countervailing duty, on the specified items being imported from the countries indicated in the protest. This additional duty is intended to level the playing field so that Canadian Manufacturer and Industries can compete.”
